Sonoma County Repertory Theater

 presents the

2010 Sebastopol Shakespeare Festival

Macbeth

By William Shakespeare

Directed by Jon Tracy

Sebastopol, CA – June 16, 2010 Sonoma County Repertory Theater (The Rep) is proud to kick-off its 17th Annual Sebastopol Shakespeare Festival with Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Haunted by witches and urged by his wife, Macbeth takes destiny by the hand to become King. But as one dirty deed leads to another, he learns that his choices have enormous, unexpected, personal, political, and cosmic consequences. Don’t miss your chance to see this epic tale of cause and effect.

The Rep is excited to once again work with Bay-area writer-director, Jon Tracy, who also directed the Rep’s Nixon’s Nixon and Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter. Not only is he directing the production this summer, but he has adapted the script as well. Tracy has earned local and national recognition and has received the Kennedy Center Meritorious Achievement Award, fifteen North Bay Arty Awards, a Sacramento Elly Award, a Bay Area Critic Circle Award and grants from Theater Bay Area and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Instead of a traditional interpretation of Macbeth, Tracy has decided to create his own environment to tell the story. It will be reminiscent of the depression-era and be “something from a time long forgot, when culture and, perhaps, magic thrived... now just the dusty remnants remain. It has made way for a cultureless world of warriors and a certainly bloody industrial revolution. The kings men see future not history, as they brazenly walk over the broken foundations of old. This old world has energy though…” says Tracy. According to Tracy his version of Macbeth is, “A story of ambition. A story of revenge.”

The cast is full of all-star Rep artists, including Artistic Director Scott D Phillips in the title role. The cast includes: Rebecca Pingree (Lady Macbeth), Matthew Proschold (Banquo), Tim Redmond (Macduff), Sonya Smith (Lady Macduff) Jack Halton (Duncan), Samson Hood (Ross), Adam Palafox (Malcolm), John Turrentine (Witch), Marjorie Crump-Shears (Witch), Francisco Garat (Witch), AJ McCalla (Fleance), and Gabe Milligan-Green and Ry Basham Mintz(Ensemble).

Sonoma County Repertory Theater

 Presents The World Premiere

THE COMPLETE WORLD OF SPORTS (abridged)

Written and Directed by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor

Sebastopol, CA – April 23, 2010 Sonoma County Repertory Theater (The Rep) is proud to premiere the brand-new championship comedy The Complete World of Sports (abridged) from co-authors Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor of All the Great Books (abridged), The Complete History of America (abridged), and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged), May 12 – June 13, 2010.

For the first time ever, Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor have decided to workshop their latest script at The Rep. When developing new scripts in the past, they had not only written and directed the piece, but also acted and produced it as well. “We wanted a chance to simply write and direct the first production of this script, and not have to focus on producing or acting in the show at the same time” says Martin. They chose Sonoma County Repertory Theater to host this project because, “the Rep had produced several other shows we had written in the past and had done an outstanding job on them.” Tichenor also points out that this established relationship provided “a comfort level that allowed us to develop our new script in this new way.”

Over the past six years, Sonoma County Repertory Theater has produced, under the direction of Jennifer King, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Complete History of America (abridged), The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) and All the Great Books (abridged). The cast has had vast experience with these abridged productions, as Dodds Delzell has been featured in all of them and Chad Yarish in three of them. This is Benjamin Stowe’s first production.

The production of The Complete World of Sports (abridged) is truly a workshop production. According to Martin, “this particular production will be changing during the course of the run as we find out what works and what doesn't.” Tichenor adds, “and if patrons see more than one performance during the run, they will see the small ongoing changes we'll be making throughout the process.”

“This is such a wonderful opportunity for not only the Rep, but for our audience members, our staff, and the actors that get a chance to work with Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor. A world premiere, written and directed by artists of this caliber, being created on our stage; it doesn’t get much better than that,” says Artistic Director Scott D Phillips.

The Complete World of Sports (abridged) will astound audiences as it sprints through the world of sports in record-breaking speed. It will cover everything from the earliest cavemen playing “Neanderthal in the Middle” to your own kid’s soccer practice. The entire history of athletic competition will be regurgitated in a tour de farce of physical theater, at a level of sophistication and pathos that only these guys can muster. It’ll be a marathon of madness and mayhem as the world’s great sporting events are shrunk down to theatrical size.

The trio of actors will cover an estimated 3,477.3 sports in one hundred minutes, all the while exploring sports most critical questions: Is bowling really a sport? What about Poker or Competitive Eating? Which is more boring – Baseball or Cricket? Who invented Curling and Synchronized Swimming and why in the world are they in the Olympics? Can’t Tiger Woods demand that the Master’s Green Jacket be slightly less green?

This production is written and directed by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor and stage managed by April George. The cast includes: Dodds Delzell (Rohnert Park), Benjamin Stowe (Napa), and Chad Yarish (Petaluma). The production team includes: Scott D Phillips (scenic designer), Julia Kwitchoff (costume designer), Joe Winkler (sound designer), April George (lighting designer) and Elizabeth Bazzano (Properties Master).

The Complete World of Sports (abridged) plays at Sonoma County Repertory Theater May 12 – June 13. Advance ticket sales are available by phone at (707) 823-0177 or on the web at www.the-rep.com. The box office is open Tuesday – Saturday, noon – 4PM. General admission tickets are available for $25, and $20 discounted tickets are available to seniors (60+) and students with a valid ID.
